How to Fit New Delrin Inserts

Note:

I'm currently sold out of the new delrin inserts and due to the temperature I cannot run my CNC until it gets back over 40F. You may still order the kits that have those parts included, but there will be a delay of currently unknown time on shipment until the weather improves and I can safely run my machinery.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

 

Style (reference last picture to what's actually in your car)

Two Cotter Pins

  • Most 90-91's and some 92-93's came with a main shift lever that uses a cotter pin along with the gate selector using a cotter pin.

 

Cotter Pin/M5

  • Some 90-91's and most 92-93's came with a main shift lever that uses an M5 nut and washer along with the gate selector using a cotter pin.

Full Race Rebuild Kit: Premium Rebuild Kit + Short Throw Kit + Short Gate Lever

  • This kit builds on the Premium Short Throw Kit and replaces the OEM steel gate selector with a lighter, stronger, stiffer, and longer gate lever, reducing the left to right travel of the knob.
  • Includes:
    • BIB 7075-T6 billet aluminum gate selector (-41% travel from OEM).
    • BIB Short Throw Kit
    • BIB Premium Rebuild Kit

 

Premium Short Throw Kit: Premium Rebuild Kit + Short Throw Shift Kit

  • This kit is the combination of the Premium Rebuild Kit and the Short Throw Kit as a combo discount.  Zero compliance feel with the shorter travel transforms the car into a sports car feel and makes the shift so satisfying!
  • Includes:
    • BIB Short Throw Kit
    • BIB Premium Rebuild Kit

 

Short Throw Kit: Reduced front to rear throw, solid or stiff bushings.

  • Billet aluminum arm relocates the shift post to reduce front to back throw.  To ensure clearance to the center console, the short throw kit must come with BIB lifted bushings and bucket drop kit. Without the full race kit the gate selector cable will bind more leading to premature wear.
  • Includes:
    • BIB 7075-T6 billet aluminum main shift lever adapter (-32% travel from OEM).
    • BIB Carbon fiber nylon lever to adapter spacer (cotter pin style shifter only)
    • BIB Grade 10.9 Shifter posts
    • Zinc plated/stainless steel hardware
    • BIB 2024-T6 billet aluminum bucket drop spacers and new Grade 10.9 bolts to eliminate cable bind/wear
    • BIB carbon fiber PETG (solid) or 95A Poly (mostly solid) chassis lift bushings to clear bucket from contacting the body after the bucket is lowered (Taller than OEM option)

 

Premium Rebuild Kit: Rebuild & metal bearing conversion, bushings optional.

  • For the easy cruisers who like Hondas engineering, but with a slightly higher budget in mind. This option only rebuilds the shifter without modifying the geometry. This kit can be updated to the full race kit later on!  It converts the plastic sleeve bearing to a dual ball bearing in the gate selector and replaces the plastic main lever bushing with a PTFE lined spherical metal bearing with BIB billet stainless high missalignment spacers improving longevity, feel, and reducing friction.  Also included are the BIB billet Delrin-AF 150 shifter inserts.  Made of billet acetal and Delrin-AF 150 for maximimum friction reduction with tighter tolerances than the OEM palstics.  Reduces friction, increases stiffness, and elimiates all lash and slop in the shifter.
  • Includes:
    • Spherical main lever bearing with PTFE liner
    • Ball bearing conversion for Gate Selector
    • Stainless steel bearing spacer for thrust loads
    • Zinc plated/stainless steel hardware
    • BIB billet acetal bearing retainer inserts
    • BIB billet Delrin-AF 500 anti rotation inserts
    • BIB billet Delrin-AF 500 gate selector bushing
    • PTFE grease packet

 

 

Bushings:

All kits come with new inner metal sleeve. Please order the extended bushing hardware kit if your shifter comes with the shorter bushings shown in one of the pictures, as the bolts won't be long enough.

 

Solid

  • Black and Red carbon fiber PETG 3D printed bushings. Full kit comes with the lifted bushings and everything else will come with the shorter OEM height bushings.

 

95A Poly 

  • Black and Red 95A polyurethane 3D printed bushings. Still solid, but isolates some vibration.

 

Custom

  •  Custom color for either solid or poly bushings. Please reach out first if interested in an uncommon color.

 

None

  • Select Black option to calculate price if not purchasing bushings.

 

 

Additional Info:

  • The short throw kits will drop the shift knob center approximately 25mm. A 25mm shift knob extension will be available in the future.
  • Due to vehicle build variation, the provided button cap screws with the bucket drop kit may contact the body. If so, the spacers can be shortened to accommodate. Thick washers can also be placed under the main chassis bushings to space everything up.
  • Assembly of the new bushing inserts is very finicky. Carefully and slowly tighten the two M6 clamping bolts in a way that doesn't twist the parts. With interference fit bushings, everything needs to be perfectly concentric. Some sand paper is provide to provide additional clearancing if needed.
